Find a credit union you can actually join
NCUA’s locator shows where branches are. Joinable answers the harder question: who can join, how hard is it, and what fees/ATM networks are published — with sources you can check.

About Joinable
A directory for people in California who want a membership path they can understand before they apply. Separate brand from Atlas (City Fair Shops / honest mechanics).
- Who it’s for: renters, switchers from big banks, anyone stuck on opaque “field of membership” language.
- Each listing answers: who can join → how hard → published fees (or “not published”) → ATM notes → caveats.
- Evidence rule: FOM from the credit union’s own membership page (preferred) or NCUA materials — never invented.
How we vet
A CU is “joinable” when
- Official FOM covers live / work / worship / school in that geography, or
- A documented open path exists (e.g. free association, small published donation), and
- We cite the source URL and a last-verified date.
We won’t claim
- APY, loan rates, or “best rates” without a dated primary source (v1 skips rate shopping).
- Fees that aren’t on a published fee schedule / join page.
- Eligibility for a ZIP outside the CU’s stated FOM.
- That joining is “guaranteed” — approval and CIP always apply.
Re-verify cadence (proposed): FOM pages every 90 days, or sooner if a CU announces a charter change. Mark listings stale after 120 days.
Join-difficulty labels
Labels summarize published FOM text — not marketing copy.
- Easy County-wide or statewide live/work/worship/school, or a free/no-cost association path anyone can use.
- Medium City list, ZIP list, or small paid association/donation path; or census-tract nuance.
- Hard Employer / school / occupational affinity only (listed for contrast when relevant).

Why not just use the NCUA locator?
The NCUA Credit Union Locator is excellent for finding insured institutions and branch pins. It does not surface plain-language field-of-membership rules, join steps, fee schedules, or “how hard is this for someone at ZIP X?” Joinable’s job is that last mile, with citations.
Dry-run last assembled: 2026-10-25 (America/Los_Angeles). Orange County + San Diego Wave 1b hubs added; SF Bay Area Wave 1c hub added; Sacramento Wave 1d hub added (last Wave 1 CA metro). See also V1_SCOPE_PROPOSAL.md, DOMAIN_OPTIONS.md, GO_LIVE_CHECKLIST.md in this folder.
