NCUA vs ASI insurance

NCUA / NCUSIF is federal share insurance for most U.S. credit unions. ASI (American Share Insurance) is private insurance — not the same thing. Joinable prefers NCUA-insured listings and marks ASI clearly when a CU publishes it.

Joinable only paraphrases published field-of-membership (FOM) and fee facts from credit-union sites (and NCUA materials when relevant). We never invent eligibility, fees, or ATM counts. Always re-check the CU’s membership page before you apply.
Not a guarantee: Matching a published join path does not mean you will be approved. Credit unions still verify identity (CIP) and apply their own account rules.

NCUA / NCUSIF

Federally insured CUs participate in the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund. Confirm insured status with the NCUA locator. Typical coverage is at least $250,000 per ownership category — confirm current NCUA materials for categories and limits.

How Joinable handles it

We never invent insurance status. Charter / type lines cite NCUA or ASI only from published CU or NCUA materials. Example of excess ASI labeling on an existing listing: MemberSource (Houston hub). Related: Is my money safe.
